Gullaume Tenaud (France)

Solund Kulturskule 03-NO-1
September 2003 to July/August 2004

Why are you a volunteer?
I have just finished my studies and I didn’t want to start a job now. I wanted to have a “break” and travel.
Why did you choose Norway?
Because I did want to discover an other culture. Like I am French, I thought that the south of Europe was not so different than France. Therefor I have choosed Scandinavia. The project in Norway was very interesting and I have decided to come here… to see also a lot of snow and northern lights!
What did you do?
I work in a “Kulturskulen”… and I do a lot of things! Since I am here, I have helped for sport activities, assisted meetings, worked at the library and with children at school, observed birds and collected sheeps! Now (it’s the winter time), I am thinking about a project of calendar for 2005, trying to make an Internet site and making a movie. In the spring and summer, I will help for sailing courses and outdoor activities.
What is bad about being a volunteer?
You can only do that one time!
Three typical norwegian things?
Graut (a plate with rice and milk)
Trolls and Nissemenn
Whale hunting
What was your first phrase?
“Ikkje noe problem!” (No problem)
Your best norwegian experience?
I am only here since three months… My first northern light? My first meeting with whales?
Your favorite norwegian food?
The sheep head!
If you had optional things to do, what would you do?
Eg forstår ikkje spørmalet…
The most important phrases in your job:
Kann du gjenta? (Can you repeat?)
