Vesle Daniel welcomes you

to learn more about the multitude of possibilities that international youth activities offers. This site is built around the many projects and activities that the Project Vesle Daniel has been involved in since 1999.

The menu at the top will take you to our different programmes, the menu at the left will provide you with more details about the subject. It may also be of use to look at our sitemap.

On the different parts of the site you may find diaries from exchanges, EVS volunteer travel stories, project descriptions, youth leader resources, advertisement for trainings and exchanges, videos from exchanges and many more things of interest.

This site is meant to be an international resource, due to this we attempt to have all written materials in English. Some of the information is in Norwegian; however this is mainly issues and articles of interest for Norwegians.

Please browse around. We welcome any feedback and ideas that may lead to improvement of the website.

We will expand the site to cover a wide range of international possibilities as time goes.

Many thanks to ex-EVS volunteer Juan Miguel Garrido Delgado that have designed this site, all financed trough a Future Capital grant from the Norwegian YOUTH programme, thanks a lot to the YOUTH programme as well. Juan has also recieved an additional Grant from The Sogn og Fjordane County towards designing this site.

Vesle Daniel activities

Vesle Daniel is the international part of the county of Sogn og Fjordanes programme directed towards young people. Vesle Daniel was initiated in order to actively promote international youth activities in the county.

The main activities are:

•  Group exchanges within the European programmes directed towards young people

•  European Voluntary Service (EVS)

•  Inform about and arrange training courses

•  Information to young people, upper secondary schools, youthworkers teachers and other persons interested in international youth activities. Activities are directed towards the inhabitants of Sogn og Fjordane

•  Encourage local and international network building amongst youthworkers and teachers

•  Assist instutions and municipalities with advice and guidance

  • Encourage further utilisation of other international possibilities

Historical overview

Main aim

Provide opportunities for local youth and young people from other countries to gain experience and impulses in another country.
Through this our communities gain impulses from other cultures and countries, these will encourage further development of cultural and business issues in the
county of Sogn og Fjordane.

Historical summary

•  The project started in 1999. It was operational in the five municipalities in the HAFS region until 2001
•  The activities were expanded to encompass all of Sogn og Fjordane in the periode 2002 to 2004
•  Partners were the County Cultural Department, HAFS regional council and Red Cross Nordic United World College
•  The Norwegian National Agency for the EU programme YOUTH has been main financing source for activities.
•  During 2005 the Sogn og Fjordane county continued the activities and made a decision to establish Vesle Daniel as a permanent part of the youth programme of the county.

•  Group exchanges, age group 15 – 17
•  Europe an Voluntary Service (EVS), 18 – 25
•  Youth leader training, develop competence
•  On arrival training for EVS volunteers
•  Building an international network
•  Information to youth workers
•  Information through youth made video and website

Sogn og Fjordane county is through Vesle Daniel

•  One of the lead actors of international youth work in Norway
•  Maintains the largest network of EVS placements in Norway (1/3 of the Norwegian programme)
•  In the planning stages of four youth exchanges for the summer 2006
•  The largest user of the YOUTH programme in Norway . Raised 1,7 million kroner for youth activities in 2005
